Sarjan alkuperäinen nimi on The Tribe. Kirja, kuten sarjakin, seuraa etenkin Ostarinrotat nimisen klaanin selviytymistä ja halua luoda parempaa maailmaa. Klaani asuu hylätyssä ostoskeskuksessa kaupungissa, kunnes se sarjan lopussa joutuu pakenemaan uutta virusta sataman kautta veneellä.
